In Assam and West Bengal, polling for the First Phase of Assembly Elections is progressing smoothly. The people were seen standing in long queues in front of the Polling Stations right from the beginning. All the necessary facilities and security arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair polling during this phase. The VVPAT is being used along with Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) at every Polling Station, with a view to enhance the transparency and credibility of the election process.
Meanwhile, in West Bengal no majore untoward incident has been reported so far. In West Bengal, voting will be held for 30 seats. The TMC and BJP trades allegations against each other. The TMC alleged that the voter turnout in constituencies in Purbo Medinipur district dropped by almost half in a matter of five minutes. TMC has claimed that BJP workers have thrashed voters in Bankura's Saltora.

BJP’s West Bengal unit Dilip Ghosh said the Trinamool Congress is aware that it is going to lose the assembly elections and is therefore is resorting to poll rigging allegations against them. According to information Bengal records 51.53% voter turnout till 1.00 p m. . Hours before polling began in Bengal, the East Medinipur district witnessed violence - bombs were hurled and shots fired in Bhagabanpur constituency.
In Assam also voter turnout was 43.88% till 1.00 pm. The Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sanowal also exercises his rights and cast his vote at the polling station at Jeevan Phukan Nagar of Dibrugarh. AGP leader Atul Bora also casts vote in Bokakhat.Long ques are being seen and voters also wearing masks and maintaining social distancing to cast the vote.in Assam, 47 seats are going to polls in phase 1.
